Sto. Niño Elementary School

HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

During the early 19th century, no school was built within the barangay. An old church served as the temporary school for Grade 1-IV. They had two sessions, morning and afternoon. Pupils usually go to the shore to pull the fishing net called “da-lis” before going to school. The first teachers were Miss Palet Ang, Miss Florencia Abdon, Miss Paz Feria, and Mr. Macario Amores. During the 1930s, the Grade IV class transferred to the house of Mr. Ancieto Abdon. When the family of Mr. Abdon could not endure the noise of the pupils, he requested them to vacate his house and transfer to the southern site where a school was being built but it was not yet inaugurated. The pupils finished their primary grade at the new building. Mr. Sergio Abille was then the supervising Principal of Sto. Niño Elementary School.

Early in the 1940s, during the Liberation Period, classes resumed at the southern site and so with that of the northern site (annex).

In the 1950s, Sto. Niño Elementary School was completed, with Grades I – VI. The building was the old Gabaldon with wooden flooring.

In the 1960s, additional buildings were put up. The Marcos Type was built. Numerous children of Barangay San Rafael enrolled in the school.

In the 1970s, the RP-Us Bayanihan Building was constructed in place of the old dilapidated building.

In the mid 80s, a separate Home Economics Building was constructed as well as the Industrial Arts Building which were used by the Intermediate pupils in the Edukasyon sa Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan subject.

In 1990s, the Shahani Building was put up in the northern site (annex) which was occupied by the primary grades.

During the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, the classrooms were damaged. These had to be reconstructed. So in the early 1990s, the new Deloso Type Building, an elevated building with stage, was constructed. The Grades V and VI pupils classes occupy the building.

Starting year 2000, more improvements were made in the school. Rooms were converted as Resource Centers like Hekasi Room, Science Room and Reading Center. A Science Garden was also put up. A vacant room adjacent to the Principal’s Office was converted to a mini library and an Alternative Learning System (ALS) class for out-of-school youths of the barangay which is scheduled every Tuesday afternoon. It has just started last July 14, 2009 with the able supervision of Mrs. Adela C. Ildefonso, Master Teacher I In-Charge of ALS and Mr. George Tabunan as their teacher.

During the year 2015, a one-storey building with two classroom was erected. The said building was donated by the H & E MFG. CORP. – FIL-CHIN. CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE through the initiative of the Municipal mayor of San Felipe, Atty. Carolyn Senador Fariñas under the principalship of Mrs. Nellie F. Frondarina.

The H & E MFG. CORP. building was occupied by the Grade IV classes.
